Thanks to urgings from street photog Sharron Demarest I entered the 19th edition of the Julia Margaret Cameron Award. On Sunday while out photographing eagles in southwest Florida Sharron called not once but twice. First she called to share that I won an honorable mention for my nature series. Then she called back again. She just discovered that I won the bigger prize, the Best in Category for Landscape and Seascapes. This series of images are posted above. This is a huge international contest for women photographers. Honored to be selected by jurist Barbara Davidson, three-time Pulitzer Prize and Emmy award-winning photographer/ director as well as past recipient of this award.

- Carolina Montano, Director of Outreach and Volunteer Services It was an honor to submit an entry for the South Florida Wildlife Center's photography contest earlier this year. I've had the privilege to visit the center and see the care and healing they provide for injured wildlife throughout the greater South Florida area. Once my neighbor recovered a young chick that fell out of its nest and took it to the center. About the photo: Mother Alligator with her young hatchling stretched out across her head. For me it's a reflection of motherhood, only in an animal species many fear. Symbolically this image represents a mother's nature to support, protect and, literally, uplift their young giving them the best opportunity to survive and hopefully thrive. More in the Wildlife Collection Thank you CanvasRebel Magazine for this great feature! Wonderful way to start the new week, month of October and the art season.
